Accelerated R&D of Low-VOC Resin Materials

Tighter environmental control shifts R&D focus of acrylic, alkyd, unsaturated polyester and epoxy resins to low-VOC systems. Traditional solvent-borne resins contain abundant volatile components released during production and construction. High-solid modification and water-based transformation reduce organic solvent proportion and cut emission at source. Production processes are optimized to retain physical properties while lowering VOC. In practical scenarios, low-VOC resins with eco-friendly additives produce coatings and inks for strict applications including interior coating and food package printing. However, low-VOC systems tend to suffer poor leveling and hard-to-remove bubbles, requiring adjusted additive formulas to balance performance. Technical popularization introduces construction tips for water-based and high-solid resins to help practitioners adapt to new systems. Testing specifications are updated to standardize VOC measurement. Downstream markets phase out traditional solvent products and boost demand for low-VOC resins. R&D tackles technical bottlenecks such as low viscosity with high solid content and insufficient water resistance of waterborne resins. Low-VOC resins will keep upgrading and expand usage in coatings and inks while meeting environmental requirements.
